Teacher talk

❓Did you know that too much teacher talk can hinder progress and disengage learners? 🤔

Why? 🧠💭

Because it’s extremely easy for our minds to wander when all we’re required to do is passive listening.

But this is not the only drawback….

When teacher-talk is more than student-talk:

1. Less time remains for learners’ output and practice. ⏳
2. It leaves no room for formative assessment, since we can’t understand if students are actively listening. 🚫👂
3. Passive listening creates disengagement, boredom, and zoning out. 😴
4. Boredom, in turn, can lead to frustration and unsettled behavior. 😤

Next time you see yawns in your classroom, ask yourself: Have I been talking for too long?
